COMPANY OVERVIEW

Southern Launch offers bespoke space mission services from two complementary spaceports in Australia. With regulator proven vertically integrated processes for orbital and suborbital launch, hypersonic flight, re-entries from space and range services for advanced system testing, we ensure mission success for our customers. Maximise orbital missions with direct ascent trajectories from 55 to 177 degrees including polar, sun-synchronous orbits and 135 degree (equivalent to 45 degree) inclination with launches from the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex. Conduct a range of suborbital missions including launches, hypersonic flight or longrange vehicle testing over uninhabited land at the Koonibba Test Range or over water at the Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex. World class infrastructure, including telemetry and tracking systems, is available at both sites. Southern Launch are also world leaders in conducting orbital re-entries for commercial spacecraft with regulatory expertise and over 41,000 square kilometres of land to return technology to Earth safely. Southern Launch secures all required approvals, including environmental approvals, to undertake space related activities at our two unique spaceports.

PRODUCTS

    Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex:

  • The Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex supports the highest cadence launches into polar and sun-synchronous orbits. Good year round weather and unhindered launch trajectories across unpopulated areas with low density air and marine traffic offer greater launch window availability.
  • Launch customers can access direct ascent to orbit flight trajectories over the Southern Ocean and Great Australian Bight, maximising spacecraft payload mass and profitability.
  • Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex is located 35 minutes from the regional city of Port Lincoln which has an abundance of accommodation, restaurants and tourist attractions.
  • Koonibba Test Range:

  • The Koonibba Test Range is the largest commercial rocket testing facility in the Southern Hemisphere.
  • The range encompasses up to 41,000 square kilometres and extends up to 350 kilometres over uninhabited land. Rockets and payloads can be recovered from the range to collect data and conduct system validation before flying technology into orbit. The facility is also equipped to receive the return of space technology from space.
  • The Koonibba Test Range is operated in partnership with the Koonibba Community Aboriginal Corporation and is Australia’s first licensed space launch facility.
  • The size and flexibility of the Koonibba Test Range allows testing of vehicles at hypersonic speeds. Vehicles and payloads can be recovered to do further testing and system validation.

DISCRIMINATORS

  • We are Australia’s leading experts in obtaining regulatory approval under Australian legislation, having secured space launch facility licenses, space launch permits, a high-powered rocket permit and multiple return authorisations.
  • Southern Launch has the most launch experience of any company in Australia having conducted seven launch campaigns for customers at both the Koonibba Test Range and Whalers Way Orbital Launch Complex.
  • Southern Launch conducted the world’s first commercial spacecraft re-entry to a commercial spaceport for Varda Space Industries. A second successful return landed ten weeks later with more to come.
  • We have developed world-leading proprietary software, approved for flight safety analysis by the Australian Space Agency and Civil Aviation Safety Authority.
  • All staff hold NV1 security clearances.
